Hello everyone! Welcome to the Program. We are so excited to be working with you.
Our world is facing four interrelated grand epidemics— sleeplessness, obesity, inactivity, and mental illness—that are causing people to struggle on a daily basis. Consider this:
We are in a global “sleeplessness epidemic” that affects close to 20% of the population.
Non-communicable diseases that can be caused by poor nutrition and physical inactivity such as cancer, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease are now the leading cause of death in all parts of the world except Africa.
Almost 60% of Canadians and 70% of Americans are now overweight or obese. These numbers are increasing worldwide.
The World Health Organization has identified physical inactivity as one of the greatest threats to human health.
One in five people will suffer from a mental illness challenge in their lifetime.
What does this mean? That billions of people are missing out on potential creativity, problem solving, ingenuity, inventiveness, and, ultimately, happiness.
Traditionally in western medicine, sleeping, moving, eating, and thinking are treated separately. If you want to lose weight, your doctor tells you to go on a diet, but not necessarily about the importance of sleep. If you want to sleep better, you’re given sleep medication, but you’re often not told to exercise during the day. If you have depression, you may not be encouraged to exercise as part of your treatment.
We are missing out on a powerful insight. This insight is that sleeping soundly, eating smarter, moving more, and thinking clearly are all interconnected—you can’t outrun a bad diet, for example, and a proper diet can’t make up for a sedentary lifestyle. These four factors are amplifiers for each other. When you put them together, you end up with much more than the sum of the individual parts. It’s when we combine sleeping, eating, moving, and thinking better that we can make incredible gains in our health and in our lives.
I call this the ripple effect.
This Program will challenge you to examine how you live. As with any 'training' program, you will improve your physical, mental, and emotional health and performance through sustained commitment and small, daily changes. Changes will come 1% at a time. A one-percent change in any aspect of your life can have exponential benefits over time. This Program is all about slow, consistent growth and improvement.
Over the course of the program, we will explore how you can
· Sleep Soundly
· Move More
· Eat Smarter
· Think Clearly
Throughout the Program, I'll present you with information that will introduce core concepts and also zoom in on specific skills and techniques that you can work on. You will receive articles, podcasts, and videos to help you build the habits and skills you need to reach your potential and be extraordinary. Each of the emails will also be recorded so you can listen to them when commuting or at the gym - just click on the audio link at the top of each article. Occasionally I'll also give you a form to fill out so that we can spark a conversation and send you some individual feedback. The more you engage with the content, the more you'll get out of the Program.
You can send me your questions any time at firstname.lastname@example.org. The contact page on the website is also an option: it goes directly to my computer, so your questions and all communication between us are confidential and are only shared with my internal team - for example if you have a nutrition question our naturopath or dietician will respond to you.
To set the stage for growth, the first month of the program will focus on how to set dreams, build great habits, and to create an environment for success. This is an opportunity for you to take a step back and think about what you would like to work on this year to help make this the best year of your life. Of course, we're here to help make that happen.
To get you started, we need to see where you are. Please take 10 minutes and complete The Wells Performance Questionnaire. This will allow you and I to track your progress as you move through the program. It will also make it possible for us to send you specific information that might be helpful if you are great in one area and need work in another. The questionnaire is confidential and only comes to our Internal Team.
Thank you all for being a part of the program!
